Less is More | The Start of a Simplistic Style
Simplistic, Minimalistic. What do these words really mean?
You may be familiar with the concept of cleaning up your style (and your life) and the self-help advocates for it.
So you're not ready to pile every single item you own and go through them all - yet. But there are still small ways you can not only consolidate your physical possessions, but discover your overarching style through the process.
Primer describes Minimalist style as: "...it means stripping out superfluous items and creating a simpler, more intentional look based around less."
There you have it. You don't need to get rid of everything and you don't need to transform your style completely over night. Start out by selecting a few pieces in your wardrobe that would be key representations of how you want your overall style to be.
Think of the characteristics that would make up this style profile, characteristics that you want to emulate through your personal aesthetic.
Primer lists the main points of practice involved with a minimalist style:
- Monochromatic or limited color palette
- High quality materials
- Extremely good fit
- Sparse use of patterns
- Carefully selected accents
- Reserved, functional and aesthetic vibe
Go through what you have. If you barely wear it and don't see yourself wearing it with your newly aligned in-mind style - get rid of it.
When you get dressed in the morning, think about numbers. Don't wear five things when four will do the trick. Don't wear four different colors when three will do. Don't add on three accessories when just one statement will work.
